What you need to organise so you can start painting

Here we are with videos and observations to help you think about what you need to paint. Mindset and Materials. Four lessons to set you up to start painting with some tips and things to consider

WELCOME TO MODULE ONE

An introduction to Module One. A bit about making your own canvas.

Materials to Paint with

Basic materials is all we need to start painting. This may seem obvious but surprisingly many people don't get to paint because of procrastinating about materials

Space

The question of the Space to work is an interesting one that we will return to many times

Technical stuff

Smart Phones and tablets, whatever is your media of choice is best to get a range of images to work from to start with

5 Lessons

Work towards an image on the whole of your canvas

In this module we will make the first marks on the canvas.

We will mark out the whole picture and have our first go at working with the subject of your paintings

BUILDING A FOUNDATION – WELCOME TO MODULE 2

All of the preparation is crucial in the making of a painting. So much is about getting the mind to start this amazing relationship with a object to paint

Working from the centre of the canvas

We will always work from the centre of the image. This is the process I follow and the more I make work the more it proves to be an effective way to start the relationship with the painting

Mark the Horizon then the Sea and Sky

One line but the start of the whole piece. From there lets paint below and above the horison

The main subject of your painting

So we have found the object that has inspired to make this painting and we have set up the foundation to put the object onto the canvas.

Summary so far

It may seem that we have just been following some really basic steps, in fact, we have been learning some fundamental and amazing things about the discipline and mindset needed to develop a sustainable arts practise

4 Lessons

Developing the harmony in the overall painting

4 lessons to help go deeper into the detail and aspects that distinguish your style of painting

Welcome to MOD 3 - Painting a sky another layer

Introduction to Module 3. Straight into the sky and get to feel the way the acrylics work now we are putting more layers onto the canvas.

Acrylics and Paint a sea a second layer

The second layer of acrylic paint now. We again start to sense the nature of feeling, through the brush, of acrylic paint

The Main focal point we add more paint

The main focal point. Now we add the second layer of paint onto the image. As we see it becomes a kind of balancing act. We can adjust and add paint with acrylics

Straightforward enjoyable and fast painting skills for anyone in acrylic paint.

Analyse where we are

A summary of progress so far.

4 Lessons

More detail finishing and where to next

4 Lessons. By now we are familiar with the whole of our image. Now we put in finer detail and learn from what we have done so far. Also we discuss what the next steps could be in creating a sustainable Arts Practise

Welcome to Module 4 and on with the sky

The final module now. The process can continue if you wish as you understand the process and what you are aiming for. You can continue until you feel satisfied with the end result. Now the third layer of paint will be applied to the sky

More light in the Sea

We are beginning to build some harmony in our piece so now is the time to add some light to the foreground object. In the case of this work we are painting the Sea.

More definition in the Focal point of the painting

Layer 3 of the paint is now applied to the main object. In this example, we are still fairly loose with the application of dark paint. Remember we can always tweak at any time.

Overall lets touch up and assess. What next???

Still some changes to make. Remember you are now the artist
