Paint4 Real - Begin to Paint - Lite
An introduction to Module One. A bit about making your own canvas.
Basic materials is all we need to start painting. This may seem obvious but surprisingly many people don't get to paint because of procrastinating about materials
The question of the Space to work is an interesting one that we will return to many times
Smart Phones and tablets, whatever is your media of choice is best to get a range of images to work from to start with
All of the preparation is crucial in the making of a painting. So much is about getting the mind to start this amazing relationship with a object to paint
We will always work from the centre of the image. This is the process I follow and the more I make work the more it proves to be an effective way to start the relationship with the painting
One line but the start of the whole piece. From there lets paint below and above the horison
So we have found the object that has inspired to make this painting and we have set up the foundation to put the object onto the canvas.
It may seem that we have just been following some really basic steps, in fact, we have been learning some fundamental and amazing things about the discipline and mindset needed to develop a sustainable arts practise
Introduction to Module 3. Straight into the sky and get to feel the way the acrylics work now we are putting more layers onto the canvas.
The second layer of acrylic paint now. We again start to sense the nature of feeling, through the brush, of acrylic paint
The main focal point. Now we add the second layer of paint onto the image. As we see it becomes a kind of balancing act. We can adjust and add paint with acrylicsStraightforward enjoyable and fast painting skills for anyone in acrylic paint.
A summary of progress so far.
The final module now. The process can continue if you wish as you understand the process and what you are aiming for. You can continue until you feel satisfied with the end result. Now the third layer of paint will be applied to the sky
We are beginning to build some harmony in our piece so now is the time to add some light to the foreground object. In the case of this work we are painting the Sea.
Layer 3 of the paint is now applied to the main object. In this example, we are still fairly loose with the application of dark paint. Remember we can always tweak at any time.
Still some changes to make. Remember you are now the artist
About the teacher
Patrick Turner-lee
Patrick Turner-Lee started painting following a cathartic health crisis in 2013. On Xmas day, he suffered a heart attack. While in recovery, Patrick discovered for the first time that he can paint. Since then, he has sold paintings worldwide and has a studio in the heart of Brighton on the Sussex Coast.
As soon as he started to work, he sold work. This has continued to this day. Each year Patrick holds exhibitions, and now he is an artist-in-residence in Foodilic, a popular restaurant in the main shopping area of Brighton.
